The Lady Eagles ran one of their best performances this weekend, placing third as a team led by Layne Hammer, who took top individual honors.
Hammer ran the Oklahoma State University 5,000-meter course in 18:53.4, beating the next runner by nearly 30 seconds. This time was a huge factor in the Lady Eagles’ third-place finish among the 20-team field.
Miller said he was very pleased with the showing of his ladies – specifically Hammer.
Despite the impressive performance from his team, Miller said his ladies still have some things they could work on. “Layne Hammer ran really well to win the women’s college race and has put together a good season so far,” Miller said. “We had a good overall team performance on a tough course but have a few things to sharpen up before we start our championship portion of the season.”
The Lady Eagles had good performances from the rest of the team as well, Miller said. Maci Rich and Aubrey Watson both finished in the top 30. Rich posted a time of 20:20.8, placing 16th and Watson placed 26th with her time of 20:38.6.
Other times for the Lady Eagles included Rachel Meyers who clocked in at 21:12.2, placing 39th and Sarah Cobb rounded out the Lady Eagles top runners with her time of 21:43.1 — fast enough to place 50th.
The Lady Eagles will be off until Oct. 8, when they will race in the Midwestern State Invitational. This event is 6,000 meters, which is the farthest distance of conference and NCAA postseason events.
