Sports Brief: Week of Sept. 23-29

This week in sports, the only competing teams were the men’s and women’s soccer teams and the men’s and women’s golf teams.

Golf

 The men’s team secured their second win of the 2019 season at the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 24th. Posting a team score of 564, the Eagles were four shots ahead of runner-up University of Central Oklahoma. The top finisher for the Eagles was junior Andres Brictson, who finished the tournament tied for third in individual standings. This was Brictson’s fourth career top-five finish.

The women’s team competed at the Dallas Baptist Women’s Fall Classic on Monday, Sept. 23rd, and Tuesday, Sept. 24th. The Lady Eagles finished the tournament in seventh place out of the 13-team competition pool. The top finisher for the women’s team was freshman Wilma Merenmies, who had 11 birdies throughout the tournament and finished in third.

Soccer

 On Thursday, Sept. 26th, the women’s soccer team played an away game against Dallas Baptist University.. The Eagles’ defense held the game close until Dallas Baptist scored twice early in the second half to lead the Patriots to a 2-0 win over the Eagles.

The women’s team took the field again on Saturday, Sept. 28th, against Texas Woman’s University. Despite five saves by Oklahoma Christian goalkeeper Gabby Goddard, the Eagles lost 4-0.

The men’s team had a game against Midwestern State University on Thursday, Sept. 26th, at Midwestern State University. Oklahoma Christian posted three shots on goal, two by junior Diego Vasquez and one by junior Pedro Ribeira. Midwestern State outshot the Eagles 21-3, leading to the Eagles losing 3-0.
