Spring sing concluded late Saturday night, March 8th, 2025. The men of Chi Lambda Phi took home first place, with the Men of Kappa Sigma Tau second, the Women of Lambda Chi Zeta third, and the Women of Gamma Rho at fourth.
Chi’s theme this year was scarecrows. Their show featured fun lyrics, rival crows in the form of part time performers, and a multitude of melodic harmonies and acrobatic flips to keep the audience entertained. It is Chi’s 15th win in club history, with their last win coming from just last year in 2024. Spring sing directors Cole Klaassen and Mason McDonald both expressed incredible gratitude for their club working together as one during the process.
“I love our guys a whole lot,” Klaassen said. “It feels good to be with them, win or lose.”
“Before we went on stage tonight, I was so content with the boys and how much love they were showing one another,” McDonald said. “Performing with them is a dream come true, way more reward than any trophy.”
Chi’s win also places them in pole position for winning the triple crown; that is first place in homecoming, all sports, and spring sing. Klaassen and McDonald took the time to focus on overcoming the challenge of winning back to back titles, while also taking time to give credit to Kappa’s second place run.
“We just have fun and like each other,” Klaassen. “It’s hard to win spring sing, so it’s sort of a toss up. I’m going on record to say that Kappa was equally as deserving of first place, so it could’ve gone either way. We worked hard and we had fun.”
“Everyone has so many opinions about spring sing, but it really only matters what the judges opinion is,” McDonald said. “And it’s random, so random. We came into this weekend thinking there were four or five shows that deserve to win and we got lucky.”
Despite recognizing the difficulty of figuring out what puts one club over the top, Klaassen made a point to express how incredible it felt winning.
“It feels so good to have worked our butts off for three months, because we know we earned it.” Klaassen said
The majority of minor awards were won between Kappa’s Leprechauns and Delta Gamma Sigma’s Romans on Vacation. Make sure to check out the Talon for a story fully breaking down each minor award.
