Intramural Athlete of the Week Oct. 19 – 26

Intramural Male Athlete of the Week

Name: Matheus Mantovani

Club: Soccer Team

Major: Sports & Wellness

Hometown: Sao Paulo, Brazil

Team: Soccer Volleyball

Q: Do you think the soccer team has a team chemistry advantage over other teams?

Definitely! I think the fact that we were playing as friends helped a lot because if someone would make a mistake we would have the incentive to do better, or make fun of each other and just get it on to the next play.

Q:  Do you think playing volleyball outside this year has affected people’s playing?

I don’t think so, everyone had time to get prepared and everyone knew about it, so I don’t think so.

Q: What impact do you think you have on your games?

I think I have an impact on leadership, for being their coach and being one of the guys that actually played a little bit of competitive volleyball when I was younger, it helps to organize the team and sometimes make a different play to help the team.

Q:  Do you have any personal goals for the volleyball season?

We can’t play playoffs, so I would say stay undefeated.

Q:  What is your favorite part about playing volleyball?

I always loved the game, whether for fun or competitive, but my favorite part about competing in volleyball is the challenge of it not being ‘my first sport’ skills-wise and still being able to perform well at a competitive level.
