Jay Wright

Jay Wright, head basketball coach for Villanova, has retired, first reported by Jon Rothstein on Wednesday, April 20. Wright was one of three active coaches with multiple national championships, and he came off a 2022 Final Four appearance.

Wright officially announced his retirement via a statement on his social media accounts: “Over the past 21 seasons, I have had the opportunity to live out a professional dream as the head coach of Villanova,” Wright wrote. “Now though, it is time to enter a new era of Villanova basketball. After 35 years in coaching, I am proud and excited to hand over the reins to Villanova’s next coach.”

Following the announcement, Villanova named Kyle Neptune their new head coach.

NFL draft

The NFL draft is a week away, with the first round taking place on April 28. In his latest mock draft, Peter Schrager of the NFL Network has Georgia defensive linemen Travon Walker going No. 1 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Schrager predicts Kenney Pickett will be the first of two quarterbacks taken in the first round. He sees Pickett going at No. 6 to the Carolina Panthers, being the only quarterback going in the top 15 picks. Matt Corral will be the next quarterback taken, according to Schrager, going as the last pick of the first round to the Detroit Lions.

Schrager’s full 2022 mock draft can be found here.

Trade rumors during the draft are also starting to swirl. The Green Bay Packers are rumored to want to trade up for more offensive weapons after losing Devante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders over the off-season. The Seattle Seahawks are looking to add a quarterback after losing Russell Wilson, and Deebo Samuel has requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers as teams are said to be willing to give up draft picks for the Pro Bowl wide receivers.

Chirs Trapasso of CBS Sports laid out his predictions for trades in the upcoming draft.
