As the school year continues, excitement spreads for intramurals to finally pick back up, and Tuesday night did not disappoint. Everyone showed up ready to support their club and each other all while keeping some light trash talk, obviously.
As we get into this year’s games, the teams to watch are Chi Lambda Phi and Gamma Rho. Both teams are ready and excited to defend their All-Sports titles. With both teams getting ready, they’ve called on absolute units to run their programs. The athletic directors are serious athletes and well-rounded in every sport: Steven Holland, Blake Smith, and Gus Reed.
Holland, excited for the upcoming year, is no doubt confident in his guys.
“I have confidence that we will be in the race this year, but winning is going to take us making plays in the right moments. I think we are more than capable of doing this, but it will be tough,” he said.
No doubt that “toughness” will be needed with softball.
“I am most worried about softball since we have struggled so much the past couple of years with it not even making the playoffs,” Holland said.
However, even though they won All-Sports last year, losing softball isn’t the end of the world for this team. The true test will come Thursday night as Chi gets its first A-team game against Delta Gamma Sigma, a tense and long-standing rivalry. It will no doubt be a game to watch.
Gamma came out with a fantastic win over the freshmen girls. The freshmen teams are always difficult, so it’s a great start for the women of Gamma Rho. All eyes will be on them to see if they can keep this momentum for the rest of the season. There’s plenty of pressure for them; having won last year, they will be the team to watch for a back-to-back run.
Outside of clubs, the freshmen boys showed up big time for their first games. Both A and B teams had massive wins against Delta. It was a fun night to be a freshman, but no doubt a hard night to be a Bull. As the season continues, all eyes will be on the freshmen to see if this momentum will continue or if it was simply a lucky start.
While the freshmen women weren’t as lucky, they will no doubt have the support of all the other clubs. It’s expected for them to recover from the loss quickly, and they should still be a team to watch.
As the night began, a highlight was the Chi B versus Alpha Gamma Omega B game. Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship. It was a fun game to watch, with all of Chi in attendance and plenty of Delta showing up to support Alpha. The highlight of the game goes to JP, an all-around athlete, helping to bring in points for Chi throughout the game!
The first night was extremely eventful, and while excitement continues to grow, it seems the teams to be watching are the freshmen boys and ladies of Gamma Rho. As the season continues, be sure to watch these teams for the best games throughout the rest of the season.
