Entertainment Update: murder and martians coming soon

With one month ending and another beginning, there are new shows and movies hitting theaters. Catch the latest entertainment that will soon be in Oklahoma City.

Start October off with a bit of murder. Tony Wendice has married Margot for her money and plans to murder her for the same reason, but a murderer is murdered and the victim survives. Tony and an inspector from Scotland Yard play a suspenseful game of cat-and-mouse that will leave the audience guessing if Tony is smarter than the police.

“Dial ‘M’ For Murder” will be staged at the Jewel Box Theatre from Oct. 1-25. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The Jews are exiled in Babylon and after a feast Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, commits blasphemy by using the Jews’ vessels to praise the heathen gods. Belshazzar is killed, the kingdom falls and the Jews are set free.

“Belshazzar’s Feast” will be held at the Civic Center, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m.

Coming to theaters and IMAX on Sept. 30 is “The Walk.” The story is about French high-wire artist Philippe Petit as he attempts to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974.

The movie stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Charlotte Le Bon and Ben Kingsley.

Prepare for blast off on Oct. 2. with “The Martian,” a story about a man who is presumed dead after a storm on his trip to Mars. Left behind by his crew, he is stranded and alone on the planet. With only limited supplies he must find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

The movie stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig.

A story of love and injustice, “Freeheld” is based on the documentary of the same name, and is about Laurel Hestler, a New Jersey police lieutenant who is diagnosed with cancer. Watch the court battle as she and her domestic partner fight to secure pension benefits. The film stars Julianne Moore, Ellen Page and Steve Carrell.
