Entertainment Update: stand-up comedy, romance and more

There’s no shortage of adventure, romance, laughter and music in the Oklahoma City metro entertainment scene in the upcoming week.

The Grammy Award-winning stand-up comedian Lewis Black is coming to Oklahoma City. Black is a prolific and popular comedy performer and an actor and author. He performs over 200 nights a year to sold out audiences around the world.

“Lewis Black: The Rant is Due: Part Deux” will be held at Rose State College on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.

This romantic comedy runs the range of emotions through laughter and tears, raising a family, and the husband whose heart melts at the sight of the silly memento his wife left under the pillow of the four-poster bed. “The Fourposter” will be staged at the Jewel Box Theatre on Nov. 12-Dec. 6. Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

Classic rock and symphony unite, featuring rich vocals with orchestral harmonies that influenced a generation, and still continues to inspire to this day. “The Music of the Eagles” will be held at the Civic Center Nov. 13 and 14.

Based on the real event, when a Chilean gold and copper mine collapses, 33 miners are trapped underground for 69 days. “The 33” stars Naomi Scott, Cote de Pablo and Antonio Banderas. The movie hits theaters on Nov. 13.

Set in France in the mid-1970s a former dancer and her husband, a writer, travel the country together. They seem to be drifting apart, but when they remain in a quiet seaside town, they draw closer to some of the locals, including a café-keeper and a hotel owner. “By the Sea” stars Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Melanie Laurent.

An underdog on the gridiron faces the toughest challenge of his life after leading his team to a championship season. “My All American” stars Finn Wittrock, Sarah Bolger, Robin Tunner and Aaron Eckhart.

When four generations of a family come together for a Christmas Eve celebration, a series of unexpected visitors and unbelievable events turn the night around, leading them to rediscover family bonds and the spirit of the holiday. “Love the Coopers” stars Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried and Maria Tomei, with Diane Keaton and John Goodman.

Love is in the air. A single woman is mistaken for a stranger’s blind date, leading her to find the perfect boyfriend. “Man Up” stars Simon Pegg, Lake Bell and Olivia Williams.

Companies of young British soldiers encounter an unexpected, horrifying enemy — a dried-out riverbed. Under every step lies the possibility of an anti-personal mine that could cost them their leg, or their life. “Kilo Two Bravo” stars David Elliot, Mark Stanley and Scott Kyle.

James White, a 21-year old New Yorker, struggles to take control of his self-destructive behavior in the mist of critical family challenges. “James White” stars Christopher Abbott, Cynthia Nixon and Scott Mescudi.

On his way to meet his estranged daughter and attempting to save his career, a broken, aging comedian plays a string of dead-end shows in the Mojave Desert. “Entertainment” stars Tye Sheridan, Michael Cera, Lotte Verbeek and John C. Reilly.
