Preview for the Upcoming Rush Season

Rush season preparations are already underway for Oklahoma Christian University’s social service clubs as they show a glimpse of what is to come in the fall. Rush season previews for each club’s unique rush experience took place over the past week.

Raegan Meyer, a rush director from Lambda Chi Zeta, made plans to help  the future rushees to see what rush is all about.

“We had a great amount of girls and had to bring in more seating and tables because we ran out of room within a few minutes of the event starting,” Meyer said. “I’m really excited to see the same girls back at our events in the fall.”

The rush preview in the spring has been a tradition at Oklahoma Christian which Iota Kappa Phi Rush Director Carli Hensal hopes to uphold.

“I am most looking forward to the new friendships that are formed through rush,” Hensal said. “I think they have gotten a glimpse into how fun rush is and what the people in club are like.”

COVID-19 guidelines did not prevent directors from thinking creatively about how to keep everyone at the rush events safe.

“It wasn’t really difficult at all since we’ve all been living in this pandemic for over a year now and we’re pretty much used to everything that comes with it,” Meyer said.

With event activities like a pancake party or s’mores around a campfire, there may be some safety challenges, but Lambda Rush Director Laney Womack said she is still excited.

“I’m glad that rushees get the opportunity in the spring to know a little more about club,” Womack said. “I hope by the time the fall semester comes around, rushees will be just as excited as we are.”

As the upcoming rush season approaches, each club chooses a theme to represent their club community, which helps rushees decide where they will fit in.

“We decided to do Iota In Color because it represents the diversity of personalities within our club,” Hensal said. “You can be anything you want to be in Iota and we wanted to show all of the best qualities through this fun event theme.”

The rush preview provided the freedom to be as imaginative as the directors could be to build up the fall 2021 rush season.

“We all danced around and sang and just had an absolute blast,” Womack said. “It was really fun to see the girls’ personalities shine through when sometimes it’s hard to break out of your comfort zone at rush events.”

The freshmen and other prospective rushees have the availability to encounter their first impressions of each club to see what peaks their interest.

“I am very optimistic about the upcoming rush season. I think the freshman class is really incredible and I cannot wait for them to find their club homes,” Hensal said.

This rush preview will lead to many other events to engage the freshman in the social service club community.
