Rwanda Outreach and Community Partners are providing students an opportunity to rock-out at ROCtoberfest.

This family-friendly event on Sunday from 6-8 p.m offers a safe Haunted Forest trick-or-treating, a costume contest for children, Oktoberfest style food – including root beer and brats, and live music from Vanderzee and Paint the Town at Edmond’s Hafer Park.

Event Manager Mike Osburn said it would be a special night for the whole family.

“This event is an inexpensive way to get involved with a great organization while coming together for a fun, family-friendly event,” Osburn said.

ROC Chairman John Osborne said this event would raise awareness not only for Rwandan mission work, but also for the Rwandan community in Edmond.

“Oklahoma Christian University has about 50 students from Rwanda,” Osborne said. “This helps our community learn more about their country and some excellent efforts that are helping to rebuild the country of Rwanda – one of the success stories in Africa.”

Oklahoma Christian’s Event Planning class are volunteers at this event. Junior Kaitlin Franklin said she is excited to help support the ROC missionaries.

“I love that I get to serve people so far away in Rwanda while fostering a sense of community and fellowship here in Edmond at the actual event,” Franklin said. “ROCtoberfest is just a fun way to support a more serious cause.”

All ages are welcome and tickets are $10 per person. Oklahoma Christian students can purchase tickets for half-price by showing their student ID.

The proceeds from this event will benefit the ROC missionaries – most of whom are Oklahoma Christian Alumni.

“We are raising much needed money and awareness to help ROC sustain its operations and support the ROC missionaries in Rwanda,” Osburn said. “ROC missionaries run a school and a church in Kigali and through those organizations — they impact the lives of hundreds of people while spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
