SGA weekly update

Oklahoma Christian University’s Student Government Organization had their weekly meeting on Wednesday, March 23. They used this time to prepare for upcoming executive and class officer elections as well as upcoming events.

They began by discussing proposed constitution changes. Executive SGA positions’ required GPA moved from 2.0 to 2.5, and the budget request for funding altered to 50%. These changes were voted on at the end of the meeting and results will be announced in next week’s meeting.

They then reviewed recent events before and during spring break. They reviewed the end of the basketball season. Student participation was a success and they are looking towards continued student participation in  upcoming sporting events like softball and baseball.

They also reviewed the civil rights tour which took place over spring break. Seven students participated in the trip and toured famous locations of the civil rights movement.

SGA members then discussed the success of the pancake fundraiser and snacks for the social service clubs during Spring Sing. They also talked about applications for funding grants. While funding grants are still open, the budget is running low as the semester draws to a close.

SGA then discussed upcoming events and activities for the rest of the semester. They are preparing for the campus-wide Easter egg hunt in April as well as the finals week resort.

Spiritual Life is also planning a campus-wide devotional during dead week to boost students’ moods heading into finals week.

The meeting agenda  highlighted some important notices for the fall semester. Thirty new international students are coming to Oklahoma Christian whereas the expectation was 12 students.

They moved on to discuss the timeline for the election process as campaigns will begin on Monday, March 28.

Executive voting will be open to the whole campus, and class officer voting will be open to each specific class. All the dates for executive elections are in the SGA update from March 9

Upcoming events include a softball game on Friday, March 25 and a Ping Pong tournament hosted by the Native American Student Association on March 24.

Executive Homecoming Director applications are now available and located in student announcements.
