On Jan. 25, Oklahoma Christian University’s Student Government Association held their weekly senate meeting. This week, SGA hosted a special guest and invited students and faculty to attend the meeting. The meeting also featured the approval of last week’s minutes, the review of Eagle Eye events and the continuation of the Noted discussion.
As always, President Micah Burk opened the meeting and Jeb Klafter gave this week’s verse and prayer.
After prayer, Burk discussed last week’s meeting minutes followed by the senate’s approval.
SGA meetings typically conclude with Eagle Eye, but due to this week’s special guest, it was moved to the beginning. Events for this week include basketball games on Feb. 2 and 4, the home baseball opener on Feb. 3, History Speaks on Feb. 6 and Taco Tuesday on Feb. 14.
Succeeding the Eagle Eye presentation was special guest Scott Young, who is Oklahoma Christian’s newly hired campus minister. Young spoke to the attendees about his role on campus and his goals for Oklahoma Christian. Young hopes to build relationships with the students here and is excited to be working as campus minister.
“You guys are the reason I left a place I love and a job I loved,” Young said. “Because I love students, I love being around you, I get energy from it, and so this is where I wanted to be.”
Young also mentioned his desire to have times of prayer over faculty and students who are experiencing hard times in their lives, as well as encouraging relationships between students and faculty.
The meeting closed with speaking about Noted, a new activity SGA started last week where members write notes to different organizations around campus. This week’s group was the international students.
