Date Week Q&A with Kennah Foster

Date week is right around the corner. The events are free and will happen throughout the entire week, starting today, Nov. 11, and ending on Saturday, Nov.16.

SGA Activities Coordinator Kennah Foster answered questions about the events happening this week.

How are the Date Week events determined?

The events are discussed and chosen by the Activities Committee in SGA. The committee is led by me and Maria Jones, with committee members Philip Fitzsimmons and Sienna Gray.

How was the preparation process prior to the events?

Countless emails, phone calls and meetings. Discussing color schemes, events and new this year are T-shirts being sold to the students, first come first serve for only $2. They’re long-sleeve Comfort Colors designed by junior Canaan Burkett.

How can these activities benefit the students?

My vision for date week is that it would appeal to every student on campus. We worked really hard to make sure the activities would sound fun to both boys and girls, and we really want to emphasize that you don’t have to go as a “date.” Anyone can come with groups of friends and have a good time.

What do you think is the most expected activity for the week?

I believe it will either be the movie night on Monday, showing the first Iron Man, or it will be the free Chick-fil-A milkshakes.

What are some issues you found in organizing the events?

The only thing I personally wish I would have done differently is to start planning sooner.

How has the students’ response been to these events in previous years?

Last year we had a huge response to multiple events during the week and we are trying to keep that trend going.

What is the best part of organizing events like this?

I personally enjoy planning events because I love bringing people together. Hopefully, since this is a campus-wide event, people will meet new friends and make lasting connections. I also just love making people happy, and that is what these events are geared towards.
