SAAC brings raffle, prizes to basketball games

Oklahoma Christian University students have the opportunity to win Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma City Dodgers tickets at tonight’s men and women’s basketball games.

“Students who come to the games can look forward to the opportunity to win some great prizes, help grant life-changing wishes to children with terminal illnesses and watch a couple of great basketball games with their OC family,” Cooper said.

SAAC is raising money to be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation by hosting a raffle during the two games. Make-A-Wish provides children under the age of 18, who are experiencing a life-threatening illness, the opportunity to fulfill one of their personal wishes, such as visiting Disney World or meeting their favorite celebrity.

“I really hope a lot of people get the chance to come out to the games tomorrow night,” Amanda Cooper, Oklahoma Christian’s SAAC president, said Wednesday. “I hope they cheer loud for our basketball teams and support a great cause that has certainly found a special place in my heart during my last three years participating in SAAC.”

According to Cooper, the NCAA requires each Division II school across the country to raise money for Make-A-Wish.

“The Heartland Conference voted this past year and changed the required amount we raise for Make-A-Wish from $500 to $1,000,” Cooper said. “Our campus SAAC has several fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for all of our projects, but the money from tomorrow night will be specifically donated to Make-A-Wish.”

The raffle table will be set up in the lobby, where people will have the opportunity to purchase tickets at the start of the women’s game. The winners will be announced at half-time of the men’s game. Cooper said the winner does not have to be present at the time of drawing to win the prize.

The Lady Eagles will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game will start at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be in The Nest, against Roger’s State University.
