During one of the last Student Government Association (SGA) meetings of the semester, executives proposed new campaigning by-laws and shared an official housing legislation response from the university.
After a lengthy process of submitting legislation and conducting meetings with the Oklahoma Christian University administration, the SGA received a response concerning off-campus housing from Dean of Students, Neil Arter. According to Arter, “The budget model at OC is tight,” and the university will consider allowing looser restrictions once 90 percent of students live on campus.
Senior Taylor Dotson presented the revised version of the SGA’s campaigning by-laws. According to the new by-law, campaigning includes any digital or printed materials and may begin immediately after the campaign meeting. Additionally, the by-law now states, “All campaigning materials must be honest and appropriate.”
Junior Seth Parker presented an update concerning the Academics Committee. The university will add classes such as Audio for Gaming, Family Policy and Metacognitive Learning Strategies. An art and design history minor will also be added to the academic course catalog.
Class elections for the SGA will begin within the next few weeks. According to an email sent to the university, the campaigning period will occur from April 2 to April 9, while elections will take place on April 9 and 10 from 11:30 to 4:00 p.m. in the student center.
The Campus Spirit Committee will conduct a tank top giveaway and cookout at 12 p.m. during the baseball game this Saturday, March 30.
