SGA revises funding request

The Student Government Association (SGA) had a funding request and by-law proposal at last night’s meeting.

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) submitted a funding request last night to attend the PRSSA national conference in Austin, TX Oct. 5-7. The group requested $1,800 from the SGA, with a plan to fundraise the remaining amount.

However, due to a bylaw, the SGA can only provide 50 percent of the total cost of the trip, not including food. The $1,800 request exceeded this amount. Members of the senate voted to provide approximately $1,500 toward the trip.

The SGA Vice President Taylor Dotson presented a bylaw proposal to enhance departmental representation within the SGA. After discussion concerning the role of these potential college representatives, the SGA attendees decided to postpone the proposal until further revisions are made.

The SGA will hold its first town hall of the semester Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. in Cail Auditorium. Students are encouraged to attend and raise any questions toward the SGA executives.

As the Homecoming philanthropy recipient, the Outreach club plans to send care packages to missionaries across the world. The club will sell sponsorships to local businesses until Oct. 1.

Today at 7 p.m., the Campus Spirit committee will provide free iced coffee from the Brew and bracelets to students who attend the soccer game.
