On April 14 around 11 a.m., Spiritual Life recorded one million Ethos kudos at Oklahoma Christian University. Addyson Shipley hit the mark when going to Music Chapel.
When Director of Ethos, Summer Lashley, shared the news with Oklahoma Christian’s President John deSteiguer, he sent an email to faculty and staff saying he continues to be proud of the Ethos program.
“It’s proven to be especially important during this academic year when we couldn’t have our traditional daily Baugh Auditorium events,” deSteiguer said. “To Summer, thank you for making your Ethos dream a reality. And to you and Jeff and Shaylin in the Spiritual Life Office, thank you for pouring into our students every single day.”
The ETHOS program started in 2014 and has had approximately 640 chapels and 2,200 total events per school year. Lashley told deSteiguer the one million kudos mark is significant for student life.
“That’s one million spiritual life experiences,” Lashley said. “Kudos to OC and Ethos.”
Oklahoma Christian’s press release said the ETHOS model for Spiritual Life encourages students to grow in faith, glorify God and serve others.
“ETHOS encourages [students] to practice spiritual disciplines in five dimensions – Community, Discipleship, Discovery, Servanthood and Worship – while allowing space for the Holy Spirit to work, wherever you may be on the pathway of faith,” the press release said. “You can customize your path by selecting from a new list of services each semester based on their interests. We host singing chapels, service projects, Bible studies and much more.”
The press release says students learn and connect with peers from start to finish while attending ETHOS events.
“Spiritual formation happens over time: day-by-day, week-by-week, and year-by-year,” the press release said. “ETHOS challenges [students] to be active and interactive as [they] serve, learn, and worship in community, even if it doesn’t happen overnight. We’re proud of your spiritual growth, and we celebrate with each step along the way, small or large. And now we’ve had the pleasure of doing that over a million times.”
