The Talon sat down with the newly elected Student Government Association president to discuss plans and goals for the 2026–2027 school year.
What led you to running for president of SGA?
“My freshman year, I was in SGA as a senator, and I loved being involved. This is my second year at Oklahoma Christian, but I’m a junior currently, so this year I’ve been the SGA secretary, and I’ve had a lot of fun doing that. It’s been a really great experience. I like leadership positions, and I like making sure things run smoothly. I felt like I got to see first-hand what a President looks like with Ashtyn (SGA 2025-2026 president), who did a great job. I think it was a super fun year and I’ve always thought I wanted to be in student government. I’ve always had an interest in political science, and then I went into nursing. It’s been fun, seeing different sides of things that I get to do. I have just really enjoyed being in leadership positions.”
What is something that you really enjoyed last year that you want to bring into next year?
“I really loved how we really boosted student involvement. I feel like during Covid, SGA tanked. Everything got messed up during that time, and so people didn’t really know what SGA did. I think over this last year, we increased that a lot. People were a lot more aware of what we did and we were able to show how people can benefit from it which most students do even if you don’t realize it. It takes time to bring more involvement and I want to try to boost SGA. Try to bring in the faces of SGA so that people understand, like, “Oh, Addie Neil is our Vice President” you know what I mean. I think we did boost involvement a lot. So, just try and be really good with communication so that the school knows what we do.”
What’s something you want to change next?
“One thing that I want to change is I feel like our student athletes and the rest of the student body are kind of living different lives. It feels like we go to different schools, especially in my nursing classes. I have a lot of student athlete friends so I really just want to find ways to bridge the gap and try and bring more school spirit to the athletic events. I think it would benefit everybody and just be fun.”
How do you want to involve student athletes?
“I want to reach out to each team and let them know what SGA is and what it does. Also how we can help with things like funding. But a big thing is like right now we’ve done some games that we boost with incentives like Chick-Fil-A, so even bringing other students over, kind of into the athletic side, to try and get to know the student athletes, and then maybe they would be more aware of what SGA does, try and get them more involved. We have two campus spirits; they are over all of our games. We will get with the coach’s planned events, and usually the campus spirits are student athletes. So right now, we have Kinley Kite and Caroline Karr, they are student athletes, so they’re already involved. And it is fun, because they get to see both sides.”
Last remarks?
“We plan to have more food trucks and activities. We have an active community so there will for sure be more of that.”
