Career night for three Lady Eagles in win against Saints

Four players for the Oklahoma Christian University Women’s basketball team broke double-digits on Saturday afternoon, with one above 20 points and the other three in the upper teens, on their way to a 14-point victory against Our Lady of the Lake University.

Those players were seniors McKenzie Stanford and Sarah Parker, sophomore Addy Clift and junior Audrey Hayes.

Senior McKenzie Stanford led the team in scoring as she put up 26 points and added eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists as the Lady Eagles beat the Saints 99-85.

Fellow senior Sarah Parker also broke a career-high mark as she grabbed 18 rebounds on top of 17 points. Her 18 rebounds are the most of any Heartland Conference player this season.

“There’s not going to be too many free rebounds or loose balls to chase down and they have to have that focus and intensity,” Head Coach Stephanie Findley said. “We’re shooting well and we’re sharing the ball. We did a good job of all of that tonight.”

Sophomore Addy Clift continued a shooting streak from her past few games as she hit four 3-pointers that helped her add on 19 points.

Another Lady Eagle broke a career-high, which brings the total on the night to three career nights, as junior Audrey Hayes scored a career 18 points.

Oklahoma Christian shot 50 percent from beyond the 3-point line, going a total of 11-22, and all nine Lady Eagles who played in the game tallied at least one assist, which was exemplified as they scored their first 13 points off assists.

The Lady Eagles ran to an early 10-0 lead in the first two minutes, followed by a 14-2 run by Our Lady of the Lake as it took the lead 25-24 at the end of the first quarter.

Just before halftime, Oklahoma Christian went on an 11-0 run which pushed them to a 54-48 lead and they would never trail again.

Late in the third quarter, the Saints brought the lead down to 70-65, but some late foul trouble helped the Lady Eagles gain as much as a 20-point lead in the final minutes of the game.

The Lady Eagles will play their next game Tuesday, as they make the trip to face former NAIA rival Southern Nazarene University. The tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. in Bethany, OK.
