Eagles place 11th in final race

The Oklahoma Christian University men’s cross-country team’s season ended after competing in the NCAA Division II South Central Championship Nov. 4.

The Eagles failed to qualify for the Division II Championship by finishing outside of the top three in 11th place in the 28-team race.

Senior Kyle Broaddrick placed 43rd in the 189-man field in 32:37.43 and senior Sisay Gillock finished in 33:01.49, in 53rd place.

Junior Evan McQuirk posted a time of 33:04.00 to finish 56th, sophomore Derek Espinoza was 65th in 33:19.52 and freshman Caleb Bozarth placed 72nd in 33:31.43.

The last two runners for the Eagles were senior Emory Lobley, who placed 100th in 34:14.30 and junior Jake Weith in 34:38.40 at 116th.

The Lady Eagles finished the South Central Championship in last place out of the 27 teams who competed.

Sophomore Kelsey Castillo was the top finisher for Oklahoma Christian at 132nd in the 183-woman field in 25:01.51.

In her first race for the Lady Eagles, freshman Kelsey Simmons finished with a time of 25:36.76 in 151st.

The other runners for Oklahoma Christian were freshmen Karlene Calavaza in 26:32.00 at 170th, Madison Rutherford in 179th at 26:58.23 and Ellie Little at 183rd in 29:53.74.

Both teams will transition to preparing for the indoor track and field season beginning Dec. 9.
