Eagles rout Barclay to secure first win

Five Eagles scored in the double digits as the Oklahoma Christian University men’s basketball team earned their first win of the season in a 101-65 victory over Barclay University on Saturday.

Senior John Moon scored 14 points, recorded seven rebounds, three steals and extended his streak of consecutive games with a blocked shot to 55 as he rejected five opposing players in 20 minutes of play.

“John was very impressive,” Men’s Basketball Head Coach Cory Cole said. “We are still looking for more ways to get him involved offensively, but what he was able to do on the defensive end was really something to look at as he improves.”

This was Cole’s first official win with the Eagles as Oklahoma Christian shot 50.7 percent in the game and limited the Bears to 33.9 percent from the field.

Senior Keilan Horton led the Eagles in scoring with 15 points, including going 3-5 from the 3-point range. Junior Tripp Fuller came off the bench to score nine points and pulled in nine rebounds.

Other performances for the Eagles include freshman Dorian Lopez who scored 13 points to pair with three steals, and sophomore Jordan Box and junior Elijah Strickland both putting up 10 points. Thirteen players on the 14-man roster scored in the game. the only player not to score was junior Marcus Mathieu, who posted four rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes of play.

Oklahoma Christian grew their lead early and were up 50-26 at halftime. Despite a Barclay 11-4 run midway through the second half, Moon led the Eagles on an 8-0 run of their own after that.

The Eagles were able to break into triple-digits on a put-back score from freshman Ivor Baric with 37 seconds left in the game.

The Eagles will host Manhattan Christian University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
