In the first of three games against Cameron University, the Oklahoma Christian University baseball team won 5-2 behind a three-run first inning March 2 at Dobson Field.
Senior Chad Kennedy went a perfect 2-2 at the plate, scoring two runs and recording two RBI. His first RBI was recorded when he singled to first and scored sophomore Hunter Markwardt.
The Eagles scored two more times in the bottom of the first inning, once from junior Alex Garcia who brought in sophomore Drew Wright and another from Garcia advancing on a balk call which brought Kennedy in for a run.
In the third inning, Kennedy put the Eagles up 4-1 after hitting a solo home run, and in the fifth inning, Collins made it to first base and scored Wright.
Senior Mason McAlister (1-2) pitched five innings for Oklahoma Christian, allowing six hits, two runs and striking out six batters. Seniors Luke Reynolds and Jake Collins relieved him, both pitching a single inning.
Reynolds and Collins held the Aggies scoreless through the final two innings. Collins was credited with the save, which was his second of the season.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles were held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning when they scored twice to give them a 2-1 victory Mar. 2.
Oklahoma Christian only had a combined four hits out of 30 at-bats.
Kennedy homered to put the first score of the game on the board for Oklahoma Christian, followed by senior Kyle Bottger recording the only other RBI of the game for the Eagles when he scored junior Brice Smith.
Sophomore Gabe Rodery pitched six innings for the Eagles, striking out eight batters and giving up six hits and a run.
Senior Garett Hill (1-1) relieved and recorded the win.
As the series moved to Lawton, OK, Oklahoma Christian scored seven unanswered runs in the first four innings on their way to a 16-4 rout of Cameron Mar. 3.
Garcia scored Wright on a double to start the game before being brought in by Collins.
In the third inning, Collins hit a home run, his second of the series, recording another two RBI as he and Garcia.
Collins homered again, his third of the series, in the fourth inning and brought Garcia in for a third time.
In the seventh inning, junior Garrett Wages and Markwardt both scored unearned runs, and sophomore Austin Stokes scored junior Callen Crockett to give Oklahoma Christian a 10-1 lead.
Senior Skyler Martin (1-0) pitched the first four innings for the Eagles, allowing just one hit and striking out three batters before being relieved by freshman Robbie Suhr. Suhr gave up three runs and three hits while striking out two batters.
Smith, Wages, sophomore Slater Springman, senior Matt Foster, Markwardt and Kennedy all scored in the top of the eight.
The Eagles will play next in back-to-back doubleheaders against Newman University in Wichita, KS March 9-10 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. March 9, then 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. March 10.
