After the Eagles dropped their second-to-last game of the season against Eastern New Mexico University on Thursday, the team has one more chance Saturday to seal a winning season at home.

Junior goalkeeper Evan Helker said although the loss was hard, he was proud the team gave its full effort.

“It was a tough loss but we left it all out on the field,” Helker said.

Eastern New Mexico struck first in the 31st minute to hold a 1-0 lead for 17 minutes, before Oklahoma Christian University answered back with an 18-yard shot from Brandon Little Axe, off an assist from Sergio Flores.

The score remained locked at 1-1 for the majority of the second half until the Greyhounds netted two more goals in the 79th minute and the 88th minute.

Oklahoma Christian failed to answer Eastern New Mexico’s two goals of the second half. In total, the Greyhounds outshot the Eagles 32-16. Helker recorded eight saves against the Greyhound’s offense, while Eastern New Mexico’s James Gutierrez saved seven against the Eagles.

Saturday will be the men’s soccer team’s senior night, and Helker said he looks forward to the chance to finish the season on a high note.

“There’s one more game with my brothers to end with a winning record,” Helker said.

Oklahoma Christian will host Newman University on Saturday at noon to close the season.
