Oklahoma Christian University’s intramural fields were alive with energy as two of its social clubs celebrated championship victories in women’s and men’s flag football. Lambda Chi Zeta and Chi Lambda Phi showed that teamwork, fun, and determination are just as important as skill on the field.
For Lambda Chi Zeta, the key to success was enjoying the game and each other’s company. Kayedence Copeland, a standout player, shared,
“Honestly, we just have fun with it. Everyone on the team loves to compete, but we also play because we enjoy being together. We keep each other motivated by not taking ourselves too seriously, but when it is time to lock in we lock in,” Copeland said.
Copeland also highlighted the team bond as her favorite part of playing.
“It’s the people. The bond we have as a team makes playing the game so much more enjoyable. We celebrate wins together, but we also support each other through losses,” Copeland said.
Looking ahead, Copeland says the team is excited for future competitions.
“We’re excited to keep competing and improving. Our goal is always to play our best and enjoy the experience. Whatever comes next, we’ll approach it with the same energy and spirit that got us this championship,” Copeland said.
On the men’s side, Chi Lambda Phi turned a challenging softball season into motivation for football success. Gabe Ditmeyer reflected on the journey.
“It feels great to turn around after a rough softball season and win the championship. Softball obviously didn’t go the way we wanted it to go, so coming into the football season we knew we had to make something happen. It lit a fire in us that we might not have had before if softball had gone differently,” Ditmeyer said.
Looking ahead to volleyball season, Ditmeyer noted,
“We need to not be overconfident. We will have a good team that can go out and compete, but so will all the other clubs. We need to take it one game at a time, focusing on us and how we can play to our best ability,” Ditmeyer said.
Both Lambda Chi Zeta and Chi Lambda Phi showed that there is a lot more to winning than bragging rights, but teamwork, resilience, and atmosphere is what it’s all about.
