McKenzie Stanford led the Lady Eagles basketball team in an exhibition game to defeat York College 90-52 during Oklahoma Christian University’s homecoming weekend.
Stanford poured in 26 points on 10 of 18 from the field along with three 3-pointers. Sarah Parker, a recent transfer, showed that she would become a big factor for the Lady Eagles this season as she put up 13 points of her own.
An early 10-0 lead set the tone for the game when Stanford and Sydney Hill combined for three 3-pointers and a free throw to advance the Lady Eagles out early.
Hill, a senior, had only good things to say about her team regarding their first game. “I love the way our girls came out Saturday – with a lot of energy and intensity,” Hill said. “We fed off the crowd and jumped out to an early lead and kept building on it until the game was over.”
Hill had eight points of her own with a game-high eight assists. She said she was also very pleased with the depth of the squad in this opener. “I had a slight thought that some of our younger girls would be a little timid and nervous coming out in their first game, but they came out ready to play their role and they did so perfectly,” Hill said. “With the combination of our veterans and myself, McKenzie and Sarah and our freshman Addy Clift, we are going to be very tough this season and I am looking forward to it.”
Clift had nine points of her own in her collegiate debut.
The Lady Eagles’ next home game is when they take on Edmond rival, University of Central Oklahoma, on Nov. 17. Meanwhile, they travel to Colorado for a two-game road trip, taking on University of Colorado – Colorado Springs and Regis University on Friday and Saturday.
