Despite holding a 1-0 lead going into the half, the Oklahoma Christian University men’s soccer team fell 3-1 to Ouachita Baptist University in its season-opener Thursday.
Junior goalkeeper Evan Helker said the Eagles had several opportunities, but failed to capitalize.
“We had some really good chances that we just couldn’t put away,” Helker said.
Anthony Buchanan scored Oklahoma Christian’s only goal in the 25th minute, unassisted from 6 yards out. The Eagles’ defense held off the Tigers for the entire first half, but Ouachita Baptist’s relentless attacks proved successful in the second half with goals in the 52nd, 79th and 80th minutes.
Thursday’s game revealed signs of a different team than previous season, Helker said.
“Throughout the game we showed that this year will be different from the last couple,” Helker said. “We have some amazing talent and I’m really looking forward to what we can do this season.”
The men’s soccer team will travel to Searcy, Arkansas to play Harding University on Saturday.
