After losing to the Chaparrals the last five times the Eagles faced them, the Oklahoma Christian University men’s soccer team recorded its first win against Lubbock Christian University.
The exceptional defense made the difference, according to junior goalkeeper Evan Helker.
“We played our game and kept the defense compact and worked hard off the ball,” Helker said.
The Eagles scored the only goal of the game in the 36th minute, when Clay Collier scored an unassisted shot from 10 yards out.
Matching the trend of most of Oklahoma Christian’s opponents, Lubbock Christian outshout the Eagles 15-7. Helker recorded two saves, a low number for him.
Helker said the team was energized from the win.
“It was a great result, especially since we have never beaten LCU in soccer before,” Helker said.
Oklahoma Christian plays Texas A&M International University on Thursday.
