The Oklahoma Christian University women’s softball team continued with its hot bats and efficient pitching performance at Rogers State University on Friday with a 4-1 win against the Hillcats.

Despite high winds, Lady Eagle pitcher Shea Coats pitched her second complete game in two days, allowing seven hits and retiring four batters in her 13th complete game of the season.

Sophomore Jordan Chism said despite the high wind speeds, Coats and the field played well defensively.

“Shea pitched a great game and I thought we played great defense considering the terrible wind,” Chism said. “We really played as a team.”

Friday’s game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Rogers scored off a single up center field.

The Lady Eagles answered back quickly as Courtney Starr scored off a single from Sheridan, tying the game at 1-1.

Oklahoma Christian added two more runs in the top of the fifth when Monique Elliot and Kelsie Finch scored after a Kendra Pierce double to left center. Elliot crossed the plate once more for the Lady Eagles in the seventh inning from a ground-out by Starr.

Rogers State failed to score again in the game after their solo run in the third inning, falling to Oklahoma Christian 4-1.

According to Chism, Pierce’s double provided the momentum needed to seal a properly executed game.

“I thought we played a great game all the way through,” Chism said. “Kendra came up with a really key hit that gave us runs when we needed it.”
