Softball goes 2-2 in Texas tournament

Saturday, at the North Texas Softball Bash in Grand Prarie, TX, sophomore Kaylie Upton pitched a shutout game, holding Eastern New Mexico University to zero runs. With this victory, the Oklahoma Christian University women’s softball team finished 2-2 at the tournament on Feb. 10 and 11.

The Lady Eagles opened the tournament with a victory on Friday against Texas Woman’s University by taking the lead early in the first inning with a single from White, allowing juniors Madison Nordyke and Sheridan Bond to score.

Texas Woman’s brought a runner home off a hit to left field in the top of the third inning. The Lady Eagles quickly answered with a home run from White, scoring Bond and sophomore Kayla Eichler as well.

The Lady Eagles maintained the lead for the duration of the game to beat Texas Woman’s 6-4. Sophomore pitcher Madison Hagood picked up the win for Oklahoma Christian in the circle.

Friday afternoon, the Lady Eagles struggled to get an offense going against Tarleton State University. The Lady Eagles were held to four hits and zero runs in the 0-5 loss to Tarleton State.

On Saturday, the Lady Eagles battled the University of Texas of the Permian Basin for eight innings, but ultimately suffered a 1-2 loss.

Both teams went scoreless for the first three innings until Texas-Permian Basin opened the fourth inning with a score off of a wild pitch by Nordyke. Oklahoma Christian answered in the sixth inning when Nordyke’s single to center field allowed Upton to score.

The tie-breaking eighth inning brought a run for Texas-Permian Basin. With no answer from the Lady Eagles, Texas-Permian Basin held on to the win.

Nordyke pitched against Texas-Permian Basin, giving up five hits to the Lady Falcons.

Despite suffering a loss earlier in the morning, the Lady Eagles pulled out a victory Saturday afternoon against Eastern New Mexico University.

Upton pitched a shutout, holding Eastern New Mexico to zero runs in six innings. Hagood stepped on the mound for the seventh inning and continued the streak. By allowing zero runs in the seventh inning, Hagood recorded her first save of the season.

White, Eichler and Upton each scored one run for the Lady Eagles in the 3-0 victory against Eastern New Mexico to close out the weekend, finishing 2-2 at the North Texas Softball Bash.

“Overall our weekend in Grand Prairie was a success,” Upton said. “There was a lot of good that happened and we are excited to play again.”

The Lady Eagles will travel to Wichita Falls, TX to face Midwestern State University on Feb. 21.
