Softball team surrenders five losses in three days

The Lady Eagles dropped their record to 4-10 after losing five games at the Rattler Invitational in San Antonio this weekend.

According to Niki Davidson, Softball Head Coach Tom Heath said the team was “stunned and humbled by the competition they faced.”

On Friday the Lady Eagles faced Texas A&M International University, followed by a game against Tarleton State University.

The Lady Eagles trailed Texas A&M International University 10-3 at the top of the sixth inning. Consecutive RBIs from Avery Walker, Jordan Chism and Haley Squier cut the lead to 10-7 but it was not enough for Oklahoma Christian University to take the win.

Sheridan Bond led the Lady Eagles from the plate, going 3-4 with 2 runs scored.

When competing with Tarleton State, the Lady Eagles took an early 1-0 lead after Davidson drove in Walker in the first inning. The game sat at a 3-3 tie going into the bottom of the seventh but Tarleton State’s Rebeka Allen drove the ball over the wall, to sweep the Lady Eagles 4-3.

On Saturday the Lady Eagles dropped their matchups against University of Central Oklahoma and St. Mary’s University.

The Lady Eagles trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the first against UCO but kept the game close, scoring one run apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Lady Bronchos scored a run in the top of the fifth and held on for the 4-3 victory.

Later that day Davidson began the scoring for the Lady Eagles, driving in Bond for the 1-0 lead. But, St. Mary’s scored seven straight unanswered runs in the following innings, holding on to the lead to seal the 11-6 victory.

The Lady Eagles took on Tarleton State again on Sunday. The TexAnns’ Haley Freyman threw the complete-game shutout to give the Lady Eagles their fifth-straight loss by a score of 3-0. The runs came one at a time in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Walker, Davidson, Bridget White and Kayla Eichler had one hit each but could not scratch a run.

The Lady Eagles travel to Odessa, Texas to take on the University of Texas Permian-Basin this Friday and Saturday.
