WEATHER- 730am – Campus Closed

Shortly before 7a.m. Oklahoma Christian University’s Dean of Students Neil Arter announced a notice of campus closure for Feb. 23, 2022.

“Due to extremely cold temperatures and approaching precipitation Oklahoma Christian University is going to a virtual learning day today,” Arter said. “Students will be expected to check your email and class Blackboard pages to get further instructions for your classes.”

Both the National Weather Service’s page for Norman, OK, and Weather.com’s forecast for Oklahoma City show high chances of sleet and freezing rain.

The wintry conditions are expected to travel up the I-44 corridor according to NWS. Weather.com forecasts sleet from now through 9a.m. before turning to a freezing rain that lasts until 11a.m.

KFOR’s traffic radar shows two crashes, one on OK-66 39th St Westbound at Portland Ave, the other on I-44 Service Rd Northbound at Exit 123B NW 38th St. The radar also depicts a few slow downs south of the city on I-35 and I-44.

KFOR also shows 88 areas under weather alert, and 515 active closings.

As campus is closed, this concludes the Talon’s weather coverage, though the above weather-related resources will continue to be available.

In the meantime, the National Weather Service’s Twitter account for Norman, OK tweeted the following about the wintry conditions, which, again, are expected to travel north.

“Lots of reports across southwest Oklahoma and northern Texas of slick and hazardous roads,” NWS said in their tweet. “If you can, stay home today. If not, be very careful and allow extra time.”
