Intramural Athletes of the Week: Marissa Powell & Bex Seaman

Oklahoma Christian University’s intramural softball regular season has wrapped up, and as the playoffs begin, two players led their teams to the top seed: Marissa Powell of Lambda Chi Zeta and Bex Seaman for the men’s sophomore team.

Women’s: Marissa Powell

Powell, a former collegiate athlete and serving as Treasurer in Lambda, said intramurals have given her a fresh outlook on the game.

“I’m still very competitive, but it’s been teaching me how to enjoy softball in a different way,” Powell said.

For Powell, the season has been about more than wins.

“Some things take high priority during certain seasons of life, but I’ve only seen the goodness of God in comparing my priority changes over the last few years,” Powell said.

Powell credits Lambda with helping her through this process.

“Regardless of the level I play at, I still get nervous. But I’m forever grateful God used my club to encourage me through it all,” Powell said.

As the playoffs approach, Powell believes the team’s chemistry will carry them forward.

“Everyone in A has played softball before, so we’re all enjoying playing rather competitively together,” Powell said. “Our momentum comes from enjoying our community with one another, which will always be there regardless if we win or lose.”

And while repeating as champions is certainly a goal, Powell says the bigger picture remains.

“Of course we’d love to win! But at the end of the day, we always want to ensure we’re using Lambda as a vessel for God to work,” Powell said.

Men’s: Bex Seaman

Sophomore standout Bex Seaman has helped his team secure the number one seed heading into the postseason. He said the group’s confidence comes from how they have handled games so far.

“I felt phenomenal,” Seaman said of their last outing. “We put together a great first inning. And it wasn’t perfect after that, but we got it done. That is all that matters.”

Seaman also reflected on his own performance.

“I thank God for my natural athletic ability,” Seaman said. “However, over 19 years, I have worked hard and done all I could to maintain what God gave me.”

As for what lies ahead, he said he is ready for the challenge of the playoffs, including the freshman matchup.

“We handle our business. The other teams can practice and scrimmage all they want, it doesn’t matter. We’re the one seed for a reason,” Seaman said.
