Voices from around the world will unite in song as the International Student Council (ISC) and the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) host a multicultural night of worship at the pavilion on Monday, Nov. 10, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Eunice Twagirashema, president of ISC, shared how this worship night will be unlike anything Oklahoma Christian has ever had before, celebrating the immersion of cultures through worship.
“We’re going to worship in different languages and it’s a way to remind ourselves that there’s so many other ways to worship God,” Twagirashema said.
She explains that the night will highlight the ways different cultures come together to praise God.
“The beauty of it all, the fact there’s so many cultures, but all of them can contribute to worshiping God,” Twagirashema said.
She explains the event’s main goal is to create a space where students from all backgrounds feel represented.
“Our goal is to showcase the different types of languages and give a space for people with different cultures to feel like there’s something that they can use to contribute,” Twagirashema said.
Twagirashema explains that the event will allow people to showcase talents otherwise they might never get the chance to show.
“There are things that sometimes people are gonna feel like, for example, I can sing, and I can see me run that language from back home and be a blessing where I’m at,” Twagirashema said.
She shares details about the international refreshments the event will supply.
“It’s going to take place at the pavilion and there’s going to be cool drinks, like we haven’t confirmed yet, but we’re thinking about serving tea from Rwanda and Jarrito sodas,” Twagirashema said.
She says that many students underestimate the diversity at
“OC has people from 59 countries,” Twagirashema said. “I don’t think many people realize that.”
Twagirashema laid out the night’s schedule:
“So we are going to start with the song, and we’re gonna have a surprise guest with us, so we are going to sing with them, and then we might sing two other songs,” Twagirashema said.
Laura Quintana, vice president of LASO, explains her desire to include as many languages as possible.
“We’re hoping to have Kinyarwanda, Spanish and French. One of the girls speaks several languages so we might like to involve another, maybe African language or something,” Quintana said.
She explains her goals for future events, hoping they will grow in popularity.
“We obviously want a lot of people to join but because this is our first event, I understand that people are going to want to get to know how the event works. Then maybe I’m hoping for next year or next semester, things are going to be more popular and we’re going to have more internationals participate,” Quintana said.
Quintana closes with this encouragement:
“Come prepared to worship the Lord,” Quintana said.
Students are encouraged to attend this free event and enjoy a special night of worship.
