Why do you feel Homecoming is an important tradition at Oklahoma Christian?
I think Homecoming is such an amazing way to recognize the existence of clubs and organizations that have made an impact on Oklahoma Christian’s campus. It’s such a great way to invite alumni back onto campus as well as inspire prospective students to dive into the community Oklahoma Christian offers. Each organization inevitably changes each year and I think Homecoming is a great way for alumni to see how they have impacted those changes. And lastly, a little competition between the clubs is always a fun time.
What is your favorite part of Homecoming?
My favorite part of Homecoming I would say are the opportunities for community that arise through building a float and the fulfilment you feel after working so hard. So many Godly relationships are built through spending long hours together and working on something that represents a club as a whole. I’m Homecoming director for Gamma Rho this year, and to say that it has been one of my favorite college experiences is an understatement. I have never been more proud of my sisters for helping to accomplish something so great and being so encouraging throughout this whole season.

What does it mean to you to be selected as a part of homecoming court?
It is an honor! This is huge! It makes me want to start singing’ “Hey Look Ma, I Made It.” I love the community this campus has to offer and the people I have met here have had a huge influence on my life. I am very appreciative of this opportunity. Thank you!
How has being involved in activities around Oklahoma Christian helped your college experience?
OC has so much more to offer besides just going to classes and getting a degree. As I stated before, the people I have met outside of just going to class have made a huge impact on my life. I wouldn’t have met these individuals if I didn’t participate in the other events and activities that this community has to offer. Being involved in activities has helped me become more confident, and I am very blessed to have these memories that I have made here.

What has been your favorite part of your senior year so far? What are you looking forward to with the rest of your senior year?
My favorite thing about senior year has been the people that are around me. Being able to be a leader in Earn Your Wings led me to meeting so many amazing freshmen, and being involved with the club and various other things this year has introduced me to so many wonderful people. I also have gotten so close to the friends I already have. While, yes, senior year has been a challenge, it has also been fun to push myself everyday. I look forward to continuing this same trend throughout the year, but I want this next semester to go a little slower than the fall.
How has being involved in activities around OC helped your college experience?
It keeps me on my toes. I never know what tomorrow could bring, and that teaches me how to balance my time and prioritize the things that I need to be at or do each and every day. Also, I’ve made so many connections with wonderful people that I will never forget.

Major: Nursing
Hometown: South Korea
What does it mean to you to be selected as a part of homecoming court?
It’s very meaningful to me, especially because I’m an international student; we do not have a homecoming culture in South Korea. This is definitely a great experience getting to know about culture here and also getting to know more students on campus. I’m so honored to be chosen as a Homecoming queen candidate.
How has being involved in activities around OC helped your college experience?
I was a vice president in the Korean association at OC through the International Student Council too. I had to coordinate some events which grew my leadership and communication skills. Meeting all international students helps me to develop my cultural competence in different cultures. Also, I went to study abroad in Vienna in fall 2018, which was challenging because of a language barrier, but those helped me to learn about all different cultures around the world and become more independent. I’m not in the club, but when I was in club, that helped me to learn how to interact with people in the States which helped me to adapt in the U.S. and learn more social skills here.

What does it mean to you to be selected as a part of homecoming court?
Honestly, I’m honored that my peers would choose to honor me in this way. It means to me that my love for my fellow Eagles, and work as an SGA president hasn’t gone unnoticed. I’m just really thankful!
Why do you feel Homecoming is an important tradition at Oklahoma Christian?
This is a time-honored tradition at Oklahoma Christian. I came to homecoming at Oklahoma Christian well before I considered coming to Oklahoma Christian. It allows us to take a moment and pause and marvel at great people who have left this university and gone on to do wonderful things. Most importantly, since OC is home, it’s important to remember why its home, and if it’s not- we consider ways it can be home for everyone.
