Spring graduates prepare for commencement at Senior Salute

Graduation is rapidly approaching! May 2, 2025 will celebrate this semester’s graduates and their time at Oklahoma Christian University. For more information about the commencement ceremonies, click here.

The graduates assembled in the conservatory to collect their caps and gowns on April 1. The Talon interviewed several of them about their time at Oklahoma Christian.

JT Amrein

Major: Business management

What are you looking forward to post-graduation?

“Real world stuff, law school, and more to come.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Either winning two national titles or going to Olympic trials [in swimming].”

Madelynn Castro

Major: Interdisciplinary with Psychology, Family Science, and Criminal Justice

What are you looking forward to post-graduation?

“I’m definitely looking forward to getting my first job with my degree and seeing where I go off to. I want to be an Applied Behavior Analyst and work with kids on the autism spectrum.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Getting to participate in Spring Sing with Theta for the past two years. Being a part of it was so fun.”

Jason Coon

Major: Music Composition

What are you looking forward to post-graduation?

“I’ve gotten an apprenticeship working with a local preacher to work toward being an evangelist. I’m going to continue using my degree to write music on the side. [At OC], I’ve been able to find ways to pursue preaching and pursue music and keep both of them in my life.” 

What is your favorite memory from OC?
“The musicals. I spent my whole life dreaming of being in musicals and not being able to. Getting to do them here with some of my best friends has been such a blessing that I can’t even explain. I’m also excited to have my senior recital on April 25-26 at 7 p.m. in Adams Recital Hall. I’ll be directing the choir singing the choral songs I’ve written on April 25 and I’ll be performing on April 26.”

Hannah Day

Major: Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and masters of science engineering

What are you looking forward to post-graduation?

“Resting having graduated and not having homework every night.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Some of our engineering projects, like when we used a person to start a pendulum.”

Cora Harper

Major: Interdisciplinary in Vocal Music, Spanish, English

What are you looking forward to post-graduation?

“I look forward to getting back home and hanging out with family for a bit. In the future, I look forward to finding a cozy little place to call my own home.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Having fun and goofing off in various rehearsals. You never know what will happen. For example, during a Beauty and the Beast rehearsal, a possum had somehow found his way into Baugh. Luckily, we were able to release him back outside safely and no one was hurt.”

Audrey Johnson

Major: Instrumental Music, minor in Business

What are you looking forward to post-graduation?

“Honestly, I want to sit on the couch with my dog and do nothing. That sounds so rewarding after I graduate. I am excited to start a new chapter in my life however. I am not sure what I am doing quite yet, but I know God will provide when the time is right.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Probably my rush experience in 2022. Going to all of the different rush events was so fun and such a great way to meet new people. It felt so rewarding when we finally got to be done and finally got to join our clubs!”

Van Le

Major: Biology

What are you looking forward to after graduation?

“I’m looking forward to working at OUHC Dean McGee Eye Institute lab after graduation for one year. Then I will go back and study for a PhD program in immunology-focused research.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Probably the time when we have Spring Sing. Taking pictures, the joy that I shared with everyone, and seeing people’s faces and reactions, was so much fun.

Elizabeth Oglevie

Major: Business Management

What are you looking forward to post-graduation?

“Being free after 5 PM. I can’t wait to hang out with friends or family during my free time!

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Definitely Club Night and Rush. Seeing the blurbs and connecting with others in the community was so much fun.”

Kade Schuermann

Major: Accounting

What is your favorite memory from OC?
“Studying abroad in the fall of my sophomore year, and also sophomore year just hanging around the dorms in Wilson with all of my best friends. And getting to go here with my two brothers.”

What are you most looking forward to after graduating?

“I’m looking forward to not having homework and just being able to choose how high I fly and be in more control of my path. I’m looking forward to continuing these relationships outside of college and trying to find out what that looks like in a new world.”

Stacy Smith (Slim)

Major: Exercise Science 

What are you most looking forward to after graduating?

“Being able to do what I love, running track and being an athletic trainer.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“The people, the track and field/cross country team, and the teachers.”

Lauren Yarnell

Major: Biology

What are you most looking forward to after graduating?

“Not going to class every day.”

What is your favorite memory from OC?

“Eating lunch at the cafeteria with friends after chapel.”
