More than 200 students gathered under the McGaw Pavilion on Thursday afternoon to visit with Bob Goff, a New York Times best-selling author.
According to Dean of Spiritual Life Jeff McMillon, Kerri Cunnigham and her crew in the Welcome Center, the Marketing Department and the Spiritual Life Office were all responsible for this event where students got to interact and talk with Goff.
“We found out that he was coming in for the associates dinner, and there’s a lot of donors there, but the students really, really love him, “ McMillon said. “Some people got the idea of ‘what if we could kind of have a little party with Bob and talk to him’ and he was for it.”
Goff, with Oklahoma City Thunder basketball player Serge Ibaka, was a speaker at the Oklahoma Christian University Associates Gala on Thursday night.
The event during the afternoon included ice cream from Braum’s, provided by Oklahoma Christian University’s Student Government Association. Upon arrival, Goff offered hugs and photo opportunities to students.
After a 30 minute Q&A session of preselected questions between students and Goff, the group took a selfie. Goff ended the event with book signings and more pictures.
During the Q&A session, Goff announced that he wrote a new book during the summer. While no title has been decided yet, Goff said the stories of the book focus on others showing love.
According to his website, Bob Goff is the author of “Love Does,” as well as an attorney who founded Restore International, a nonprofit human rights organization operating in Uganda, India and Somalia.
Goff is an influential speaker among Christian groups and helps connect to audiences through his down-to-earth manner.
