OC community mourns loss of student Isaac Neff

The Oklahoma Christian University community gathered late Thursday evening in Baugh Auditorium to grieve and remember the life of Isaac Neff.

Neff, a sophomore history major from College Station, TX, died Thursday in his Fails/Warlick dorm room.

Speaking before several hundred students, faculty members and local alumni, Dean of Students Neil Arter remembered Neff as a “light” who brought joy to campus.

“Isaac was easy to smile and share that with people,” Arter said. “I saw Isaac yesterday in the student center. I see Isaac outside of our office playing pool quite a bit, and I would ask him, knowing what he would say, ‘Are you the best pool player on campus?’ And he would laugh and say no, and then I would say, ‘Top ten?’ and he would say maybe.”

Arter urged students to support one another as the campus mourns.

“The most important thing that I’m going to remind you of tonight is that we can bring all of these different people to surround you, but the way you minister and check on each other is the most important by far,” Arter said. “The way you check on each other is really important.”

One chapel will convene today at 11 a.m. in Baugh Auditorium. This chapel time will be used to pray and share any further information about Neff, Arter said.
