SGA approves spring budget, discusses spiritual life

The Student Government Association (SGA) had a full agenda last night, covering topics such as the Spring Sing budget, the spring semester budget, reviewing a funding request, holding a round table discussion and proposing kudos approved events.

Baylee Hyatt, SGA member and Spring Sing treasurer, reviewed all spring sing expenses and income estimations. The estimated revenue for Spring Sing is $64,380, while the estimated total expenses sum to $50,625. The estimated net income for Spring Sing is $10,755.

Treasurer Taylor Dotson presented a plan for the appropriation committee to spend $45,500 this semester. The meeting attendees unanimously voted to approve this budget.

The Oklahoma Christian Student Investment Fund, a group of students managing a portfolio of over $60,000, presented a funding request to attend the Quinnipiac Global Assets Management Education Conference in New York City. The group requested $300 per student to cover the cost of the conference, which is 32% of the total cost for the trip.

Parent Association Director Liz McElroy hosted a roundtable discussion where SGA members presented their concerns about spiritual life on campus. Students discussed the inclusion of women in chapel, how to make the Ethos program more effective and ways to improve the bridge between college and the “real world.”

The diversity committee also presented a kudos-approved event, “Tea and Tough Topics” that will be held Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. in The Brew.
