SGA revises bylaws

The Student Government Association (SGA) discussed three bylaw revisions and voted on the Spring Sing budget at last night’s meeting.

In other actions, Seth Parker, head of the Academic Committee, shared the results of a two-hour-long meeting he had with faculty earlier this week. In addition to adding criminal justice courses and reformatting the political science department, the international business major will phase out next semester.

Vice President Taylor Dotson presented a bylaw revision eliminating the missions line item from the SGA budget as many mission trips ask for money through other committees. Rett Parker also submitted a proposal to strike the 60 percent senator participation rule.

“The whole SGA is currently illegal,” Parker said. “We’re trying to fix that by striking the laws that we’re not following.”

A discussion among senators arose after Tyler Clark presented a bylaw revision addressing what to do with extra Homecoming funds. The proposal states, “Any funds left over in the Homecoming budget will go directly to the miscellaneous line item.”  The proposal will be rewritten for SGA attendees to consider next week.

The SGA urges students to interact with the Harmony event as the team recently launched their social media account. The event will combine the “Sing” events from Church of Christ sister schools.
