The activities committee is one of eight different committees in the Oklahoma Christian University Student Government Association.
Braden Wright, the co-chair of the activities committee, said the activities committee is responsible for planning student activities.
“The activities committee plans events for the entire student body,” Wright said. “We like to make sure there are things happening on campus and we love to give out things for free.”
Wright works together as the co-chair of the committee with Sarah Gregory. Wright mentioned cooperation from members of the committee is important to keep the committee functioning.
“Members of the committee will come up with ideas for events, plan them, and ensure they run smoothly,” Wright said. “Usually, Sarah and I will let members take on their own events if they want to see something done on campus, or we will delegate tasks so that they can start to know how to plan campus events.”
Wright said the committee strives to use their resources for students.
“The goal of the committee is always to use all the money that is given to us on the students,” Wright said. “If we don’t use up all our budget, then we’ve done something wrong.”
One of the biggest events coming up is Date Week. There is an event every day during the Date Week either on campus or around OKC. There was no Date Week last year due to COVID-19, but the committee brought it back this year. Events during Date Week vary, but all of them are free, including free Chick-Fil-A milkshakes on campus on Wednesday and 150 free tickets to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art on Friday.
Wright said the committee has other plans for events during the school year, including some surprises.
“I don’t want to spoil what else we have coming up, but be on the lookout for free food trucks every now and then,” Wright said.
Wright said he has enjoyed working as the co-chair of the activities committee with his friend who invited him to the committee.
“We enjoy working together. She’s [Gregory] the one that suggested I help her with the activities committee,” Wright said. “I had experiences with the committee when I was a member last year and I find it really fun to blow the huge amount of money the school gives to us for the students whether its food, prizes or events.”
Wright said student involvement at Oklahoma Christian can improve their campus life.
“Don’t be afraid to get involved,” Wright said. “It isn’t hard to find something to be passionate about on campus and the school is always looking for more leaders.”
