Last week Oklahoma saw COVID-19 cases rise once again with the 7-day average ending at 679.
On Saturday, Oklahoma saw 1,093 new cases and 10 new deaths. The death toll now stands at 799.
Among Oklahoma cities Edmond is ranked fifth in total confirmed cases with 1,809. Edmond also reported 27 COVID-19 related deaths. Seven of these deaths occurred within the past week.
Edmond is a part of Oklahoma County which is currently in the orange color-coded area.
Last week the mask mandate Edmond went into effect. This mandate requires everyone in a public space to wear a mask
City spokesperson Casey Moore, spoke on the mask mandate.
“Any place that’s available for the public to enter and go into … a mask is required,” Moore said.
Edmond City Council Member David Chapman said the mandate has created a lot of controversy throughout the city.
“This is the most polarizing issue that the city of Edmond has ever had in their city council,” Chapman said.
