A student’s path to Oklahoma Christian

I remember telling my parents, “I can’t wait to come to school here,” as we walked around Oklahoma Christian University when I was a little girl. Growing up as the daughter of a campus alumnus, I had my sights set on coming here from a young age.

I felt this excitement up until the summer before my senior year of high school.

Harding University suddenly appeared on my radar, and I made the decision to enroll there. Returning to Searcy for my sophomore year was absolutely enthralling; I didn’t go back with any intention to transfer. All of that changed, however, when I came to Oklahoma Christian to visit friends during fall break. Being on campus that weekend gave me a feeling that I could not shake. It was the feeling of home.

Many factors influenced my decision to transfer to Oklahoma Christian. The most important was to be close to my grandparents.

Having a huge support system here at Oklahoma Christian was another major deciding factor for me.

The final reason I transferred was simply to be back in the great state of Oklahoma. Born and raised here until we moved away when I was 12, my family and I have always considered Oklahoma to be our true home state. After moving around these past eight years, I was ready to be back somewhere I knew.

Reflecting on last semester, I see God’s hand at work in my time at Oklahoma Christian thus far. Oklahoma Christian is so much more than just a college to me. It is a family and a home, and for that I am so glad I made the decision to transfer.
