“When I root, I root for the Eagles!” This cheer and a solid attempt at the four-part harmonies of “Hail to Oklahoma Christian” often ring out across the field.
As a member of the Oklahoma Christian University women’s soccer team, hearing those kind of cheers while playing the wonderful game not only makes me laugh, but it also pushes me when I’m at my weakest to play for those fans.
The amazing support from our parents, faculty, staff and the student body has influenced our team in more ways than one. Not only have they pushed us to keep fighting when we feel like we’ve run out of energy, but have also hyped us up and encouraged us to push through.
Flight Club and the Student Government Association have played a crucial part of the increased support in athletics. It is awesome to see a student section all dressed in Oklahoma Christian apparel coming out and cheering us on. The creativity of the cheers makes for a much more enjoyable game environment for everyone.
Believe it or not, there’s not usually much smiling during an intense game, but Flight Club’s cheers have continued to motivate our team and keep us in high spirits during difficult games. When the crowd cheers on our players and yells for Oklahoma Christian, it influences the level of play and creates for a more intense game with more motivation to play.
The cheering and support from friends, classmates, SGA and Flight Club has really made this season one of the most entertaining and enjoyable ones thus far.
Continued and growing support would be greatly appreciated to help us finish the season with intensity and energy. This attendance of athletic events could then transition into basketball, baseball, softball and all other Oklahoma Christian sports.
Thank you to all who have come out to show support for Oklahoma Christian athletics. We do sincerely appreciate all of the ridiculous cheers, the crazy voices and the love for the teams, regardless if you really understand the sport.
I am extremely proud to be a part of the Oklahoma Christian women’s soccer team, but I am even more proud to be part of such a loving and supporting community at Oklahoma Christian.
