The helping hand of the Internet

There are many advantages that make the Internet convenient, helpful and easy. You can use it to help you with your homework or buy a car. You can surf the web to find good recipes, can’t-miss movies, or fashionable clothes.

The best quality of the Internet is its ability to bring people together. Probably the greatest use of the Internet is social media. I would think that probably 75 percent of the time that I spend on the Internet is spent on Twitter or Facebook. One thing that these two websites have in common is that they can link people together no matter how far apart they are. I have Facebook friends from different schools, cities, states and even countries.

Oklahoma Christian University is known as a school with a great number of international students; you see evidence of this in the number of flags in the back. I cannot imagine how much harder it would be for all of those students to stay in touch with their families were it not for the Internet. Without social media websites or things like Skype or Facetime, it would be a lot more limited and a lot harder for them to keep up with their families.

Can you imagine OC alone without the Internet? I think that students here probably take Wifi for granted because it is everywhere, but imagine how much more difficult school would be without it. How much harder would research be, or communication without email, or school without Blackboard?

Outside of OC, the Internet has created a closer global society. It has spread across the world into every country and pulled them all a little closer together – even furthering the global economy too.

There are definitely bad sides to the Internet. I am sure some professors would prefer that students were not able to check Twitter during class, and the targets of WikiLeaks would probably vote to have the Internet shut down. But for the most part the Internet has proven to be good and has advanced OC and the world. And without the Internet, how would we get all those Student Announcement emails?
