Writer’s block

Every week I sit down in front of my laptop and I try to gather at least 300 words for some inspirational article that could change someone’s life at Oklahoma Christian University.

But for the first time ever I am experiencing writer’s block.

Writer’s block occurs when a writer simply cannot write. It’s a writer’s worst nightmare, and honestly it gives you headaches.

I’ve tried coffee, I’ve tried driving around observing things, I’ve tried people watching, I’ve tried talking to people about different topics, but nothing has clicked. No light bulb has gone off in my head. No great epiphany. Nothing.

I saw a suggestion online to simply start typing until eventually you’re writing out of your writer’s block. So that’s what I’m doing. If you’re reading this, you’re currently reading what I typed whenever I suffered from writer’s block. Every word is just a thought of mine that I’ve transposed onto a Word document, and that I will eventually upload to the Internet (in hopes that my Editor-in-Chief and staff adviser don’t kill me).

This is it, people. This is what I have for you. This is my life-changing article. After Spring Sing, spring break, two tests, a group project, hours of work and one mental breakdown — this is what I present to you. This is the product of the Opinions Editor of the Talon.

It’s not much, but this is what writer’s block is like for me. Quite frankly, it’s terrible but it happens. If it hasn’t happened to you, it will. And if you’re experiencing trouble while trying to put thoughts into words for a research paper or final project or anything like that, you can make an appointment at the writing center and they will help you with all of your writing needs. The Student Success Center is located on the second floor of the Mabee Learning Center and is open to all students who are sitting in front of their computers scratching their faces and blanking out into space like I am.
