Introducing Delaney Ward as President of SGA

Delaney Ward was sworn in as the new Student Government Association (SGA) president on April 8, 2024. She won the position in an uncontested election and will serve as president for the 2024-2025 school year.

The rising senior from Skiatook, Oklahoma, is double majoring in Communications and Vocational Ministry with a minor in Family Science.

Ward said she chose Oklahoma Christian University because of its community.

“It was evident there was a good community to be found here. I just loved how community oriented it was,” Ward said.

Ward was interested in SGA as a way to integrate into the Oklahoma Christian community.

“When I heard about SGA when I first arrived on campus, I thought it would be a good opportunity to get to know other people and be involved on campus,” Ward said. “I looked up to the people that were already in SGA I knew here at Oklahoma Christian, so I wanted to be involved in that.”

Last year, Ward served as Secretary for SGA.

“Getting to serve on the executive team as Secretary gave me a lot of purpose in SGA,” Ward said. “A big part of what SGA does is be good stewards of the money that we have to benefit all students. Also, just having an awareness of what students need on this campus and how we can be helpful to them. It’s something I’ve learned to look for, areas that we can serve our students better.”

Ward’s goal is to increase student participation with SGA. She offered ways for students to get involved.

“We have several class officer positions open right now. We have Senator positions available, those are available for every housing or dormitory. We also have lots of senior positions for different departments of study, Biblical Studies, health sciences, pretty much everything out there so they can contact anyone on the executive team, and we can get them plugged in,” Ward said. “Anyone is welcome to come to meetings at any time, even if they’re not in a senator position.”

Ward would also like to increase awareness of SGA’s work on campus.

“SGA provided all the outlets in the Brew, those are new. There’s a new library fit desk, like a bicycle desk, and it just got here. Air hockey tables are on the way for the student center,” Ward said.
