After striking first and maintaining a lead for the majority of the game, the Oklahoma Christian University men’s soccer team lost control to Southern Nazarene University late in the second half.
Junior Evan Helker said the Eagles didn’t play to their strengths on the field.
“We just didn’t play our game,” Helker said. “The weather conditions made it really hard to keep possession, and we made silly mistakes that cost us.”
The Eagles kept a firm grip on the game after Ante Susic scored in the sixth minute off an assist from Troy Tippeconnic. Helker’s 11 saves kept the Crimson Storm at bay for most of the game.
But SNU finally struck in the 63rd minute, and followed it up with the go-ahead goal 10 minutes later — sealing the final 2-1 score.
Oklahoma Christian’s current record stands at 8-7, but Helker said the team hopes to add some more wins before the end of the season.
“There’s three more games left and hopefully we can pull out three more wins,” Helker said.
The Eagles host Rogers State University on Saturday at noon.
