The Lady Eagles soccer team struggled to find footing in Thursday’s game and ended with a 1-0 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Senior Maicee Brinkman said the team has a few quirks to work out on the field.

“I think [team collaboration] is going to come with time,” Brinkman said. “For the most part we’re not terrible at it. There are some new faces that are part of our starting 11 now that we’re still learning how to play with, so once we figure that out it’ll be a lot better.”

The Bulldogs outshot Oklahoma Christian University with 11 shots to the Lady Eagles’ seven. Brinkman said the team’s shooting action is another part of the team’s to-do improvement list before the next game.

“When we have a free kick in the last 10 seconds we need to step it up and try to win,” Brinkman said. “I think something we need to work on as a team is our passion to win and our intensity during our games.”

Goalkeeper Carina Schanz kept the team alive for the majority of the game and recorded five saves to the Bulldogs’s one. She allowed a single goal – a shot by the Bulldog’s Hannah Elrod in the 85th minute.

Despite the loss Brinkman said she looks to Saturday’s game with optimism.

“I’m excited for it,” Brinkman said. “I think if we make the necessary improvements in the next day and a half we can do really well and recover and get our heads right, get our minds right and get ready to play the next one.”
