In the final race before the Heartland Conference Championship, the Oklahoma Christian University women’s cross-country team placed 10th out of 11 teams in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational Oct. 7.
Sophomore Kelsey Castillo led the team with a time of 21:49.81 to finish 52nd in the 96-woman field.
“My individual performance at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational was far from what I had hoped,” Castillo said. “While it was a very muddy and messy race, I am not going to make any excuses. Bad races happen, and I know that I am capable of much more.”
Freshman Madison Rutherford placed 76th in 23:39.22 and freshman Ellie Little finished 79th with a time of 24:03.44.
Other runners for the Lady Eagles were freshman Karlene Calavaza, who finished in 24:53.34 at 86th, and sophomore Rylee Rich, who placed 96th in 40:00.00.
“I feel very confident in the work that I have put in these past nine weeks,” Castillo said. “I believe that the quality of my training will show at conference.”
For the men’s cross-country team, Junior Tanner Cate was the only runner participated in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational.
Cate finished with a time of 35:01.25 to take 62nd in the 66-man race.
