The Lady Eagles track and field team, including Maegan Cowan, the 4×400 relay team and a pair of throwers, placed in several events at the NCCAA Indoor Championship meet in Cedarville, Ohio.

Going into the meet, Cowan said the preparation wasn’t too different, but she and her teammates felt nervous in the days before the meet.

“We only were able to have two good days of practice this week,” Cowan said. “The intensity was not raised that much, it is just that everyone is very anxious and excited.”

Cowan placed fifth in the 400-meter with a time of 1:00.06.

According to Cowan, this meet raised the stakes but the pressure was offset by the excitement to compete.

“I am always a little nervous naturally whenever I step on the track to run,” Cowan said. “I am more eager to get out there and perform than I am nervous at this point though. We’ve put in a lot of hard work in preparation as a team.”

The 4×400 relay team, including Rebecca Bloodworth, Kara Drewke, Wilmina Gley and Cowan, posted a season-best time of 4:04.91, earning sixth.

Track and Field Head Coach Randy Heath said he was pleased with his women’s team showing, especially Cowan.

“Maegan had a really good meet,” Heath said. “She probably accomplished the most, placing in the 400, anchoring the 4×4 and running the 800-meter leg in the distance medley relay on Friday.”

Maci Rich ran in the mile and posted a career-best time of 5:20.81, giving the team a point for the weekend. Heath said he was proud of Rich’s tough performance.

“She did really well, despite her injury she’s been dealing with,” Heath said.

In the field events, the sister-duo Miranda and Katie Ostlund highlighted the Lady Eagles team in the weight throw. Miranda placed ninth with a top mark of 45 feet 8 inches. Katie placed 12th at 40 feet 3 ½ inches.

The championship concluded the indoor season for the Lady Eagles. They will begin the outdoor season at the Southwestern Invitational on March 12.
